First experience with waste processing in ROTOCLAVE equipment |
As of March 2010, it has been 2 years since LAUTUS has been neutralising potentially infectious health care waste and has been processing it in the specialised waste processing equipment ROTOCLAVE (see more information in the section “Publications”).
During this time frame, certain experience has been gathered with regards to the equipment productivity, the benefits have been assessed, along with the possible losses due to idle time of the equipment.
The equipment can ensure sterilization and milling of 1500 tons of potentially infectious waste on average per year. The more it is operated, the lower are the costs per unit of waste to be processed.
The operations of Rotoclave are completely automated. Waste sterilization is carried out at a temperature of 135 0 degrees under alternating pressure for approximately 45 minutes. Unlike the process of sterilization employed in autoclave, the first step of ROTOCLAVE is creating vacuum inside the chamber (ensures opening of various closed containers – blood test-tubes, waste bags, containers, etc.). Another difference is the rotation of the equipment (hence the name ROTOCLAVE) during the treatment, which ensures steady processing of all waste. Entire range of information about the equipment operations is regularly monitored and stored on the hard disk of the equipment computer. |
